Scholarships, grants and bursaries

At Herts, we want to empower you to realise your potential without financial barriers. That's why we're committed to providing extensive support through a range of non-repayable awards.

  • Scholarships are a form of financial aid awarded to students based on academic achievement, sports or musical talents. It typically covers tuition fees (either partially or fully) and in some cases, may also provide support for living expenses.
  • Grants are a financial award provided to individuals to support research, educational pursuits, or living costs.
  • Bursaries are a financial award granted to students in support of financial need, or based on the belonging to a disadvantaged or under-represented group as recognised in the University’s Access and Participation Plan.
  • Prizes are usually financial rewards pertaining to academic performance, determined by exam boards or a panel of academics.

Usually, how these financial awards are spent is at your discretion - this means you can spend the money on fees, textbooks, housing or other living expenses as you choose.
